Iowa Fuel Report: March 23, 2023

Fuel prices trended consistently downward across the state over the past week, according to AAA-Iowa and the Iowa Department of Agriculture. As of Thursday, March 23, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.19 per gallon, a five-cent decrease from last week and 68 cents lower than a year ago. The national average for gas measured $3.44, a three-cent reduction. Iowa retail diesel prices dipped eight cents to $3.87 per gallon, 85 cents lower than a year ago and 40 cents below the current national average of $4.27. Wholesale ethanol held steady at $2.16. As for heating fuels, propane prices fell two cents to a statewide average of $1.91 per gallon, home heating oil dropped seven cents to $3.36 per gallon, and natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site fell 16 cents to $2.26 per MMBtu.
