Carroll City Council Tours New Street Maintenance Facility Before Accepting Certificate Of Substantial Completion

After nearly two years of construction, work at the City of Carroll’s new street maintenance facility at the corner of 3rd and Maple Streets is now finished. City leaders opened last night’s (Monday) meeting at the site for a tour prior to accepting the certificate of substantial completion from the contractor, Badding Construction, later on the agenda. Crews broke ground at the site in early 2021, and Public Works Director Randy Krauel says Badding and the architects, FEH Design, are ready to sign off on the project, excluding a few punch list items.

With the project essentially complete, the final contract cost for the street maintenance facility totaled $4.528 million. The initial contract showed a completion date of Nov. 15, 2021, but the project was completed nearly a year and a half later than originally planned. That contract specifies the city can collect up to $500 for each day construction was not finished, which equals $241,000. Ward 3 Councilman Kyle Bauer questioned Krauel regarding how those penalties would be assessed.

Krauel says there will be further discussion with Badding Construction as they work to determine what that dollar figure will be. The city council unanimously accepted the certificate of substantial completion for the 22,000-square-foot facility. The fully enclosed building allows crews to keep their equipment in warm-air storage, increasing service lives for snow plows, city trucks, and more.
