Authorities Say Slick Roads Contributed To Hwy 141 Crash That Killed Two Guthrie County Juveniles Thursday Morning

The Iowa State Patrol says two Guthrie County juveniles were killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash west of Perry on Iowa Highway 141. Authorities say a 2007 Toyota Camry, operated by a teen driver from Jamaica, was traveling eastbound on the highway at approximately 7:45 a.m. when they lost control due to the snow-covered roadway and crossed into the westbound lanes. The Toyota was struck by a westbound 2020 Volvo box truck, driven by 56-year-old Orris McKay of Carthage, Ill. According to law enforcement, McKay attempted to steer around the oncoming vehicle, but road conditions prevented him from avoiding the collision. Two juvenile occupants of the Toyota died due to injuries sustained in the crash, and a third occupant was transported to Dallas County Hospital in Perry by Dallas County Emergency Medical Services. As of Thursday afternoon, officials have not released the minors’ names. Multiple local agencies, including the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Perry Fire Department, and Perry Police Department, assisted at the scene.
