Jim was born to Leonard (Shine) James and Catherine Helen (Barnes) Tracy on February 26, 1950 in Carroll, Iowa. Graduating from Glidden-Ralston High School in 1968, he continued to be a life-long Wildcat. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. Jim married Laure Lou Schmitz on October 17th, 1987 in a civil ceremony in Carroll, Iowa. On July 29, 1989, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Denver, Colorado Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Jim’s 20 year career in social services included New Hope Village, Sac/Ida County Mental Health Services, and Cherokee County Work Services. He retired in 2002.

As an avid sports fan, he enjoyed attending baseball, football, and basketball games with his children and grandchildren. He loved fishing, and passed that love on to his grandson Carter. In his free time, he enjoyed painting, photography, yard work and gardening, genealogy, listening to the radio, and feeding the birds outside.

Aside from his love of baseball and fishing, Jim was also passionate about his faith and his Savior Jesus Christ. His scriptures are filled with doodles and many of his favorite verses are highlighted. He served in many callings in his church; he was a great friend and neighbor to all.

Jim is survived by his wife Laure, his three children; Adrian Grant of Lehi, Utah, Hannah (Shane) Andersen of Orem, Utah, Keziah Lynne of Orem, Utah; his grandchildren Carter Shane, Ellie Lou, and Brooks Scharlow Andersen and his mother-in-law Juliana Schmitz of Carroll. He is also survived by his sister, Lee Ann (Jeffrey) Lang of Ankeny, his nieces Jill (Chris) Smith of Waukee, Brenna (Jake) Happe of Ankeny, Danielle Lang of Huxley, and his nephew Grant (Sarah) Lang of Ankeny; his great nieces and nephews. He will also be survived by the remaining members of his Glidden class of ‘68 “Wildcat Strong”. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; Shine and Kay Tracy and his father-in-law Alver Schmitz.

In lieu of flowers, plant some, pick some or give some to your neighbors, friends and family. That’s what Jim did
