Louise Owens of Carroll

Louise Owens, age 94, of Carroll, died Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Swan Place Assisted Living in Carroll.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter. Music will be by Kathy Halbur, and Sherry Loughran. Gift Bearers will be Louise’s grandchildren: Brenda Rowedder, Nanci Jewell, Ryan Rupiper and Tanner Owens. Lector will be Dr. Steve Kraus. Eucharistic Minister will be Kathy Kraus. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Denison.
Visitation will be held from 10a to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.  Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Louise’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
Louise, the daughter of Fred and Emma (Kennebeck) Kraus was born on September 28, 1928 near Willey, Iowa. She grew up near Lidderdale, Iowa and attended Holy Family School graduating in 1943.
On April 19, 1949, Louise was united in marriage to James Owens at Holy Family Church in Lidderdale by Fr. Lawrence Schoeppner. The couple lived in Carroll, Denison, and Sioux City before returning to Carroll. Over the years, Louise cleaned homes in Carroll, and worked at General Electric in Carroll for 16 years until the plant was closed. Louise enjoyed her time at General Electric and kept in touch with many friends through the G.E. Birthday Club.
Louise loved to play bingo and travel, especially her trips to Ireland and the Panama Canal. She enjoyed the mystery trips with the banks. Louise also enjoyed growing a garden and mowing her own yard until turning 89 years old. Her greatest joy was every family gathering she was apart of. Louise was an active volunteer. She was a Cub Scout Leader for 4 years, spent time assisting at local nursing homes, R.S.V.P., and assisting with funeral dinners at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Louise was active with Holy Spirit Parish serving on the ladies guild and assisting as a gift bearer regularly.
Louise is survived by her children: Kathy (Bill) Rupiper of Templeton, and Tim (Fiancé Danette Tracy) Owens of Winterset; four grandchildren: Brenda Rowedder, Nanci (Mark) Jewell, Ryan (Trish) Rupiper, and Tanner Owens; two step-grandchildren: Bri (Eddie) Baker, Dusty Wood, great-grandchildren: Jameson and Reegan Rupiper; step-great-grandchildren Hazel and Nora Baker; sisters-in-laws: Kathy Kraus of Carroll, Mary Lou Kraus of Anita, and Mary Jane (Ace) Schrunk of Missouri Valley, as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband James in 1996, a son Cyril in 1964, grandson-in-law: Timothy Rowedder, siblings: Paul (Norma) Kraus, Al (Irene) Kraus, Dorothy (Harry) Behrens, Merlin Kraus, and Bob Kraus.
