John Heider of Carroll

John Heider, age 100, lifelong resident of Carroll, Iowa, died Friday, December 30, 2022, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Shakopee, Minnesota.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Friday January 13th, 2023 at St. Lawrence Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.  The celebrant with be Fr. Timothy Schott. The burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
A visitation with be held from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM Friday at St Lawrence Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, and online condolences may be left for John’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
John was born on July 21,1922 in Carroll, Iowa.  He was the youngest of eight children born to Henry and Frances (Schlichte) Heider. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1939.  He attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating Cum Laude in 1943.  He was employed for a short time in St. Paul, Minnesota. He returned to Carroll to join his father and family members in operating Heider Manufacturing Company.  He continued there until the business was sold in 1983.
John was an avid golfer starting at the age of 8 when he would ride his bike to the Carroll Country Club. He continued to play into his 90’s.  His passion for playing was for the tradition and challenge of the game. John was known as a true gentleman on and off the course.
He believed in the value of education.  He instilled this value in his family and was very proud of them and their accomplishments.
John and Mary Duncan were married on June 6th, 1945, at St. Joseph Church in Carroll, Iowa.  They were married for 64 years and had nine children.
John is survived by his children, Mary Gerken and her husband John of Shakopee, Minnesota, Sue Heider, wife of John Jr.(deceased)  of Charlotte, North Carolina,   Susan Prendergast and her husband Tom of Rochester Minnesota, Thomas Heider and his wife Helen of  Madison, Alabama, Barbara Danielson and her husband Mark of Richardson, Texas, Stephen Heider and his wife Michelle of North Barrington, Illinois,  Patrick Heider and his wife Susan of Ballwin, Missouri,  Nancy Feste and her husband Scott of Naperville, Illinois,  twenty-three grandchildren; twenty–three great-grandchildren, brother- in -law Donald Happe of Sioux City, Iowa, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife Mary, his sons Michael and John Jr., his parents, and siblings.
