Phyllis Jacobs of Lake City

Phyllis Jean Carothers Jacobs was born on January 22, 1934, in Lake City, IA, the daughter of John Verne and Clara (Arndt) Carothers. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Christian faith. Phyllis grew up on the family farm north of Yetter, IA.  She always recalled being raised on the farm as one of the pleasures of growing up. She received her grade school education at Elm Grove No. 4, a rural one room country school north of Yetter, and graduated from Lake City High School.  After graduation, she was employed in the Radiology Department at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, IA.
On February 2, 1958, Phyllis was united in marriage to LaVerne Robert Jacobs. They settled on a farm northwest of Lytton, IA, where they spent their entire married life of 40 years. Phyllis worked alongside her husband and played an active role in the farming operation. Farm life had a special place in her heart being an advocate for protecting the family farm. Together they were blessed with two children, Jerry and Julie.
Phyllis was an active devoted member of her church. She had a strong faith and knew the importance of her relationship with Christ. She held numerous Sunday School positions and served at many church functions.  Faith was a fundamental cornerstone of her life.  Phyllis had a passion for music and was the church organist for 40 years.
Phyllis was proud of her family and cherished their many times together.  Her ultimate enjoyment in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their numerous activities and enjoying their many accomplishments and talents. She embraced every opportunity to spend quality time with family.  She considered time spent with them priceless. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son Jerry (Julia) Jacobs of Yetter, IA, and daughter Julie Iverson of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Jenna (Daniel) Comes of Mapleton, IA, Kendra (Jacob) Davis of Lake City, IA, and Corey (Kasey) Jacobs of Yetter, IA; great-grandchildren: Morgan Comes, Brooke Comes, Anna Comes, Chloe Davis, Caleb Davis, Peyton Davis, and Owen Jacobs; many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne Jacobs; and her parents John and Clara Carothers.
Private Family Services were held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022,  at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, IA.  Burial took place at the Lake City Cemetery.  Farber & Otteman Funeral Home has been entrusted with caring for Phyllis and her family.
