Bernice Dickson of Carroll, formerly of Manning

Bernice J. Dickson, age 92, of Carroll, Iowa, and formerly of Manilla, Iowa, passed away on Sunday November 20, 2022 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2022 at St. Lawrence Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.  The celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm.  Music will be by Kathy Halbur.  Gift Bearers will be Nicki Thomas and Kaela Schnoes.  Honorary Casket Bearers will be Nicki Thomas, Kaela Schnoes, Sara Weyers, Tammy Humlicek, and Katie Mengwasser.  Casket Bearers will be William Dickson, Joseph Dickson, Brian Dickson, David Humlicek, Aaron Dickson, and Justin Dickson.  Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Manilla.
Visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Church on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.  Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, and online condolences may be left for Bernice’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
Bernice was born on November 3, 1930, in rural Cherokee, Iowa to Louis and Elizabeth (Glassmaker) Bauer.  She grew up on a farm attending elementary school at Catholic Parochial at Maryhill, transferring to Cleghorn High School, graduating in 1948.
On October 17, 1951, Bernice was united in marriage with William (Bill) Dickson at the Maryhill Visitation Church west of Cherokee.  Five children were born to this union.  Bernice and Bill made their home in Manilla for 50 years and resided in Carroll for 12 years.
Throughout the years, Bernice was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manilla and was active with the Altar Rosary Society.  Bernice enjoyed attending to her flower beds, particularly petunias.  She also enjoyed embroidery, crafts, and dancing with Bill, the love of her life.  Bernice adored her family and grandchildren.  She showed her affection in cooking delicious meals for all holidays and family gatherings.  She doted on each grandchild according to their own unique tastes and interests.  Upon moving to Carroll the couple was active with St. Lawrence Parish for 12 years.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill Dickson son Jeffrey Dickson, grandson John Humlicek, and sisters Geraldine (Al) Wilberding, Dorothy (Jim) O’Meara, and brother Vernon Bauer.
Left to cherish her memory are those surviving, her children: Mike Dickson and his wife Beth of Manilla, Gary Dickson and his wife Debbie of Omaha, Nebraska, Vicki Humlicek and her husband Butch of Carroll, and Donna Dickson of Windsor Heights; grandchildren: Nichole Thomas, Michaela Schnoes, Aaron Dickson, Justin Dickson, David Humlicek, Tammy Humlicek, Katie Mengwasser, Bill Dickson, Sara Weyers, Joseph Dickson, and Brian Dickson; 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The family expresses their gratitude for your thoughts and prayers, those in attendance are invited to lunch and a time of fellowship in the St. Lawrence Collison Hall following the funeral mass.
