Iowa Fuel Report: Gas Prices Up Slightly As Heating Fuels Fall

Recent drops in global crude oil prices did not lead to significant decreases in Iowa fuel prices over the past week. As of Wednesday, Nov. 9, global crude was down over $2.50 per barrel, but the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline climbed three cents to $3.56, according to AAA-Iowa and the Iowa Department of Agriculture. Current prices are 37 cents higher than a year ago but remained 31 cents below the national average, which ticked higher by four cents on the week. Average diesel prices did dip by four cents to $5.12, which is $1.66 higher than a year ago. The national diesel average was 24 cents higher than Iowa prices at $5.36 per gallon. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged from $2.16 per gallon. In heating fuels, propane prices were up one cent to $1.93 per gallon. Home heating oil dipped 16 cents to $4.56 per gallon, and natural gas prices fell 24 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site to $5.90 per MMBtu.
