Heating Assistance Applications Now Open For Older Iowans; Expands To All Iowans Nov. 1

Low-income Iowans worried about how they will pay their heating bills this fall and winter are encouraged to submit their applications for the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Eligible applicants include individuals with a total household income at or below 200 percent of the 2022 federal poverty guidelines. For a single-person household, this would be $27,180, and the cutoff for a four-person home is $55,500. The application period for Iowans 60 years of age and older opened on Oct. 1 and expands to all Iowans on Nov. 1. The program is administered through local community action agencies, which will review applicants’ income, household size, primary heating fuel, and other factors.
