Larry Gene Joseph Chartier of Carroll

Larry Gene Joseph Chartier, age 74, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Carroll American Legion. A private interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home from 5 – 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday prior to the service.

Larry was born on March 1, 1948 to Elmer and Dollie (Stout) Chartier in Sioux City, IA. Larry lived in Sioux City until 1974 when he was transferred to Carroll, IA by the Department of the Army to open Service Battery, 3/14 Artillery Unit which is now known as the Carroll Armory. He held the rank of Chief Warrant Officer – CWO2. He was honorably discharged and continued to live in Carroll. He purchased and operated Pauline’s Café in Carroll until April 1976. After Pauline’s Café, Larry worked for Farmland Foods in Denison and Carroll from 1976 until he retired in 2005 as a supervisor. Larry was active in the Carroll community and he served as president of Carroll Little League Baseball and Carroll Swim Club. He served on the board of directors for Carroll Area Child Care Center and he was a member of the Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion Honor Guard for 35 years. He also played softball for the Red Carpet softball team. Larry’s passion was his family.
Larry is survived by his family: Leslie Parker (Wade) of McCook, SD, Kimberly Baze (Keith) of Lee Summit, MO, Chad Chartier (Nicole) of Austin, TX, Gene Chartier (Susan) of Liberty, MO, Nicole Martin (Chad) of Halbur, thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several other extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Dollie Chartier; a son Shane Chartier in infancy; a daughter Rachelle Chartier; a grandson Aaron Beier; and a brother Allan Chartier.
