Unemployment Climbs In June Across West Central Iowa

The unemployment rate climbed for all seven counties within the listening area in June, according to data released Tuesday by Iowa Workforce Development (IWD). Carroll again recorded the lowest unemployment figures for the region at 1.9 percent, a three-tenths point increase from May but 1.9 points lower than June of last year. Greene County increased by two-tenths points from May to 2.0 percent but was still 2.4 points below where they were last year. Sac, Audubon, and Calhoun Counties each jumped by 0.4 points from last month to 2.1, 2.2, and 2.4 percent, respectively. All three counties were still more than a full point lower than a year ago. Guthrie County bumped up slightly from 2.2 percent to 2.5 percent. In comparison, Crawford County saw the highest overall rate for the region at 3.4 percent. Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June 2022 was reported at 2.6 percent. The national rate was unchanged from last month at 3.6 percent.
