John Norgaard of Carroll

  John James Norgaard, age 81, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 8, 2022.

     Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Terry Plocher officiating.  Casket bearers will be Will Norgaard, Ben Norgaard, Jacob Norgaard, Cory Onken, Douglas McCaustland, and Matthew McCaustland.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

      Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Carroll from 4 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday.  There will be no visitation prior to the service on Thursday.

      In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the John and Sally Norgaard Charitable Fund which will carry on John’s heartfelt tradition of giving.

     John was born August 1, 1940 in Harlan, IA, and he was the son of Elmer and Darlene (Davis) Norgaard.  He graduated from Harlan High School where he was quarterback of the football team and excelled at basketball, baseball, and track.  He attended the University of Iowa to study Pharmacy where he met the love of his life Sally Farner.  John and Sally were married on August 20, 1961 at the United Methodist Church in Carroll.  The couple made their home in Coralville, Sioux City, and Cherokee, before settling in Carroll.  He began his career with the Farner-Bocken Company in 1962, became president in 1984, and proudly claimed he would never retire. .  John enjoyed spending his time at Blanche Lake, Minnesota and being with his friends and family.  Most recently, he enjoyed happy hour with his friends at Baratta’s and pulling tabs at the Otter in Minnesota. In his younger years, he loved playing pitch at the Country Club, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed fishing.  He lived each day like it was Christmas and lived life to the fullest.

   John is survived his wife Sally of Carroll; daughter Lori Onken of Carroll; son Jay (Sue) Norgaard of Carroll; six grandchildren: Katie (Jered) Kruse of Carroll, Lindsey (Michael) Anderson of Clive, Cory Onken of Carroll, Will Norgaard of Grimes, Ben Norgaard of Grimes, and Jacob Norgaard of Ankeny; five great-grandchildren: Madden, Brayden, Brooks, Jayli, and Miller; a sister Norene McCaustland of Monticello; and in-laws: Steve (LaVonne) Farner of Ames, Cy (Sandy) Farner of Sioux Falls, Sara (Swede) Anderson, and Tom (Jean) Farner of Carroll; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.

     John was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Darlene Norgaard; his father and mother-in-law Bill and Lois Farner; two brothers-in-law Sam Farner and Earl McCaustland.
