Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau Receives Accreditation From National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications

The Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau has received national accreditation for their commitment to making the state’s firefighters some of the most well-prepared agencies in the country. The accreditation comes from the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications, also known as ProBoard, which was established to acknowledge professional achievement in fire service. Training Bureau Chief, John Kraemer, says, “Receiving full accreditation from ProBoard demonstrates that the Fire Service Training Bureau’s policies, procedures and processes meet national standards in regards to the training and certification of Iowa’s firefighters. Agencies that achieve ProBoard accreditation are recognized as having met the rigors of review by an independent, third-party organization.” The process included completion of lengthy self-assessment documents, site visits, training curriculum reviews, agency interviews and more. The Fire Service Training Bureau is now one of only a handful of training entities to earn dual accreditation from both the ProBoard and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). The Iowa agency provides basic and advanced level courses to firefighters throughout the state, including our local departments.
