The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to two motor vehicle accidents Wednesday evening, and the cause for both was a deer in the roadway. The first crash occurred at approximately 5:56 p.m. on Highway 25 near the intersection with 180th Street. A 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 25-year-old Monica Ann McCabe of Grimes, was traveling southbound when a deer ran into the SUV’s front driver’s side panel, causing an estimated $3,000 in damage. The other accident occurred about two hours later on Utopia Avenue near the intersection with 190th Street. A juvenile driver from Jamaica was traveling northbound in a 1999 Ford F150 when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway. The driver then lost control, entering the east ditch and rolled. The truck sustained an estimated $2,500 in damage. No injuries were reported in either incident.
