Girls Basketball Results for Tuesday, January 11th

Carroll couldn’t quite recover from a slow start at home as they fell behind 6-0 and trailed the whole game. Carroll did rally and pulled within four early and five twice in the 1st half and Shay Sinnard hit a pair of free throws in the 4th quarter to pull them within 40-35. Free Throws were a struggle for Carroll, as they hit 6-20 and missed the front end of several one and ones. Claire Greenslade sealed the game for ADM with a three, after the Sinnard free throws, extending ADM lead back to 8. Katelyn Aden pulled Carroll within six moments later but that was as close as Carroll got the rest of the game.
Katelyn Aden found Josie Ayala for Carroll’s first basket of the game, cutting the deficit to 6-2. Adem scored the next bucket as they trailed 11-4. ADM built a 18-8 lead before Aden hit a three to make i t 18-13 early in the 2nd quarter. Carroll went on a 5-0 run to end the 1st quarter and begin the 2nd quarter as Shay Sinnard scored just before the buzzer to make it 18-10 at the end of the quarter.

ADM built the lead back to 33-20 early in the 3rd behind Nicole Storck, Claire Greenslade and Olivia Tollari. Carroll responded with a push, Hannah Jorgensen found Camryn Schable for back-to -back threes and Carroll looked to turn the momentum. They pulled within seven on a Jorgensen bucket and Shay Sinnard made it a five point game. Greenslade drained her fourth-three of the game, giving ADM the momentum back.
Katelyn Aden and Shay Sinnard each finished with a team high 9 points. Aden added 5 rebounds and 4 assists while Sinnard had 6 rebounds. Camryn Schable finished with 8 points. Josie Ayala added 10 rebounds. Addison Klocke did a nice job defensively against Nicole Storck in the 2nd half, holding her scoreless before Storck fouled out.
The loss drops Carroll to 5-6 overall and 2-6 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carroll opens their second time through the conference schedule when they host Gilbert on Friday.

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats and Ar-We-Va Rockets put on a show Tuesday night in Rolling Valley Conference Action with the Wildcats pulling out a late game rally to defeat the Rockets.
The Rockets got off to a strong start offensively by keeping an athletic Glidden Ralston team to single digit points. Ar-We-Va got off to a 14-8 start after the first quarter expired. After a slow start for Glidden Ralston, the Wildcats started to get their offense going in the second quarter with major help from Paige Klocke. Overall, in this contest, Klocke ended up with a huge performance for Glidden Ralston with a 35-point game which helped her team to claw back within three points of the Ar-We-Va halftime lead at 27-24. Glidden Ralston Head Coach says Klocke was able to hit three threes in this game along with 11 free throws, getting points inside and in transition.
The Wildcats continued to ramp up their offensive game in the second half, but the Rockets weren’t going away quietly. While Glidden Ralston won the third quarter with a 17-point performance, the Rockets matched their first quarter performance with 14 points to keep the game at a tie at 41-41. Three players for Ar-We-Va were the reason for them playing so closely with the Wildcats, those being Timberlen Koch, Delaney Schurke, and Maggie Ragaller, all of whom ended the game with double digit points. Glidden Ralston’s late game push in the fourth quarter, along with the scoring streak of Klocke gave the Wildcats the opportunity to grab the lead, and eventually get past the Rockets by a close score of 59-51. Ar-We-Va Head Coach Jeremy Smith says this game was by far the Rocket’s best offensive effort of the season, but they struggled to get stops late in the game. Coach Corson says his team was able to execute set plays down the stretch but would like to see his team identify shooters and start making shots earlier on.
The Wildcats will improve to 4-5 overall on the season and 3-4 in the Rolling Valley Conference as the Rockets will fall to 1-10 overall on the season and 1-7 in the conference. Glidden Ralston has a big challenge ahead of them on Friday, January 14th as the Wildcats take on the Rolling Valley Conference top team Exira-EHK at home. Ar-We-Va will play outside of the conference on Thursday, January 13th when they travel to take on non-conference challenger LoMa.

The Audubon Wheelers extended their latest win streak to four games as they cruised past Missouri Valley Tuesday night in Western Iowa Conference action.
Audubon’s night offensively got out to a good start in the first quarter as they’d score 11 points en-route to an 11-4 lead going into the second quarter. The dynamic duo of Aleah Hermansen and Jaci Christensen once again shone bright as both players ended the night with double digit points on their stat lines. The Wheelers upped the intensity in the second quarter as they’d net a game high 19 points and leave the Lady Reds with a mere three points to take the 30-7 lead going into halftime. Audubon Head Coach Darren Miller says he liked the intensity his team brought to this game and liked how they were able to break up the fast break that Missouri Valley brought in the first half of the game.
The Wheelers hit a low point in the third quarter with a lot of missed layups that allowed the Lady Reds to win the quarter 8-5 in scoring, but the Wheelers stayed ahead 35-15. In the final eight minutes of play, Audubon’s intensity picked back up with a strong 15-point performance that allowed them to drop 50 points and pick up the 50-19 victory over Missouri Valley. Coach Miller says with teams focusing on defending Hermansen and Christensen, other players will need to step up and take shots and create opportunities for the Wheelers to score more often. He also mentioned with a plethora of games on their schedule this week, they’ll look to work on the fundamentals and stay focused in practice.
With this win over Missouri Valley, the Wheelers extended their current win streak to four games, improving to 9-4 overall on the season and 5-2 in the Western Iowa Conference. Audubon will get a few days away from competition before returning to the court on Friday, January 14th against Tri-Center at home.

South Central Calhoun bounced back from their loss to Storm Lake St. Mary’s last Friday with three players scoring double digit points in their win over Humboldt in a non-conference match Tuesday night.
The Titans started off with some big-time scoring in the first quarter as they’d drop 20 points and take the 20-11 lead. South Central Calhoun didn’t slow down a bit in the second quarter as they put up another 20 points and took a 40-20 lead by halftime. Riley Batta and Kylee Schleisman were another big part of the offensive dominance for the Titans, as both scored double digit points and accounted for 41 of South Central Calhoun’s points. The scoring slowed down a bit for the Titans in the third quarter as Humboldt got the 10-9 advantage, but still trailed to the Titans 49-30. South Central Calhoun capped off a strong start with a good finish as they put up 14 points in a close fourth quarter that gave the Titans enough to win it 63-41 over Humboldt. Titans Head Coach Curt Batta says his team executed well on the defensive end of the floor and well offensively against a good team in Humboldt.
The Titans improve to 10-2 overall on the season and 2-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference. South Central Calhoun gets a few days off from competition and will return to action on Friday, January 14th with a conference matchup against Alta-Aurelia at home.

The IKM-Manning Wolves went up against a tough Underwood squad Tuesday night in a losing effort.
The Wolves started off the contest with a strong first quarter where they were only three points behind the Eagles at 15-12. While the Eagles stayed strong in their scoring in the second quarter, the Wolves still got some shots up and stayed relatively close to Underwood’s halftime lead of 30-21. Bianca Cadwell had a good night for the Wolves as she ended with 10 points on the night, with Mabel Langel right behind her with eight points.
Underwood started to pull away quickly from IKM-Manning in the second half with two 18-point performances in the third and fourth quarters. The Wolves were able to bank in nine more points in the third but dipped in the fourth with a game low six points. While a strong start in the first half, the Eagles got the better of the Wolves in the second half and came away with a 66-36 victory.
IKM-Manning will fall to 3-8 overall on the season and 3-6 in the Western Iowa Conference. The Wolves are off from competition until next Tuesday, January 18th when they will host AHSTW.
