Wall Lake Pursues Over $100,000 In State And Federal Funding For Emergency Generator At Community Center

Wall Lake city officials are pursuing over $100,000 in state and federal grants to purchase a generator for the town’s community center. Administrator, Chris Rodman, explains what the generator will provide if they are approved.

To be eligible for over $120,000 in funding from the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the city would need to pass a resolution committing up to $21,500 to the project. Rodman says the council fully supported the idea.

He adds the nearly $120,000 price tag is only an estimate and includes the generator purchase and installation costs. While that figure might seem steep, Rodman says the return on investment for the comparatively small matching fund amount is significant.

With the resolution of support from the city council approved, Rodman says they are only waiting to hear back from the grant administrators. He expects a response from FEMA by the end of January. It will take approximately eight to 10 months after the selection notification for the generator to be installed and operational.
