Carroll County Historical Society Reports Things Returned To A More Normal Pace In 2021

As the Carroll County Board of Supervisors begins the budgeting process for Fiscal Year 2023, they are hearing from local non-profit entities about the past year and about their requests for funding. Earlier this week, President of the Carroll County Historical Society, Barbara Hackfort, told supervisors they had a really good year, especially when compared to 2020.

Their open house this year celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the Maple River #5 schoolhouse. Hackfort says this got a lot of attention.

This year saw the unveiling of a panel at the Missouri-Mississippi Divide located right outside Arcadia. Hackfort says the original plans also included a picnic table with a goal of making this a place for travelers to stop. She would like to see that done in the near future. Another local attraction is the Heider tractor.

Other projects include the digitizing of the original blueprints for the Carnegie Museum and an extra open house. Hackfort says they decided to forego their annual Godfather’s Pizza fundraiser, but a donation from Paula Mohr, the daughter of a famous Iowa artist, Wendell Mohr, will be used to raise funds instead.

Wendell Mohr passed away in 2008 and Paula Mohr has donated several watercolor prints they hope to be able to sell for at least $10 to $20 each. The society is requesting level funding at $4,000 this year.
