Driver Loses Control After Choking On Coffee, Damaging A Wall At Merle Hay Cemetery Sunday

A Lake Park man says a choking fit caused him to lose control of his vehicle, running into a wall at Merle Hay Cemetery in Glidden on Sunday. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on U.S. Highway 30 west of Glidden at approximately 7:34 a.m. Fifty-six-year-old Kevin John Henningsen was traveling eastbound on Highway 30 when he says he choked on the coffee he was drinking. He lost control of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, leaving the roadway and entering the north ditch where he hit a road sign. The truck continued to travel to the north, striking a stone fence at the front of the cemetery. A stone from the wall hit a gravestone, knocking it over. Henningsen was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. There was an estimated $45,000 in damage to the pickup and $10,000 in damage to the stone wall.
