Jefferson Man Charged In Fatal Sept. 2020 Car Crash Sentenced To Up To 10 Years In Prison

A Jefferson man charged in Carroll County District Court with vehicular homicide was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison today (Monday). Twenty-two-year-old Jacob Allen Hubbs was formally charged in June with homicide by vehicle, a class B felony, and homicide by vehicle—reckless driving, a class C felony, in connection to a Sept. 4, 2020 crash near Lidderdale that killed 76-year-old Kenneth Lee Johnston of Lanesboro. Hubbs failed to stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection of Robin Avenue and 130th Street and collided with Johnston’s 2007 Toyota Corolla, killing him. Authorities say Hubbs was intoxicated at the time of the crash. As part of an agreement reached with prosecutors, Hubbs pled guilty to the lesser count and the class B felony charge was dismissed. Associated fines and surcharges were suspended.
