Both Vehicles Totaled But Only Minor Injuries Reported In Accident Saturday North Of Jefferson

Both drivers sustained minor injuries in an accident that totaled both vehicles Saturday night. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Churdan and Jefferson Fire Departments responded to the scene on 140th Street and Highway 4, north of Jefferson, at approximately 7:25 p.m. The initial investigation revealed 76-year-old Kevin Schim of Georgia was southbound on Highway 4 in a 2019 Nissan NV200 cargo van. He stopped at the sign posted at 140th Street, but then proceeded into the intersection. He pulled out in front of 21-year-old Ian Schmitt of Jefferson who was northbound on Highway 4 and negotiating the westbound curve onto 140th Street in a 2005 Jaguar XJ8. Both drivers were transported to the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of their injuries. Schim was cited for failure to yield upon entering a stop or yield intersection.
