UPDATE: Cherokee Man Arrested For Fraudulent Use Of ATM

Two people have been arrested on theft charges for fraudulent use of an ATM. The Storm Lake Police Department reports an investigation was opened on Thursday, June 17 after they were notified of the activity that alleges in the early morning hours of June 13, suspects made a $4,000 ATM deposit, but the envelope was empty. The suspects then conducted a series of ATM withdrawals, bank transfers and in-person withdrawals, totaling that $4,000. An arrest warrant for 29-year-old Nathan Keith Alafa was requested and on Wednesday of last week he was located and arrested in Cherokee County. He has been charged with a class D felony, second-degree theft, and was held on a $5,000 bond. He has since bonded out of the Buena Vista County jail. A second suspect, 26-year-old Brittany Sumner of Cherokee, turned herself into authorities today (Tuesday). She has been charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony, and remains in custody at the Buena Vista County jail on a $2,500 bond. She is being held due to an unrelated arrest warrant out of Cherokee County. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
