Volleyball Results Saturday, September 11th 

East Sac and Kuemper At South Central Calhoun Tournament 

Kuemper looked sharp on Saturday, setting the tempo with a 28-26 come from behind win over ranked Ridge View in their first set of the morning. The Knights rode that wave to a tournament championship without dropping  a set on the day and only being challenged by East Sac the rest of the day. The Raiders finished 3-2 on the day with losses to Kuemper and their final match of the day against Ridge View. East Sac, Ridge View and Harlan all went 3-2 and with the Raptors taking 2nd, Harlan 3rd and the Raiders 4th after they went down to the 3rd tie-breaker to figure out the places. South Central Calhoun played well and showed some growth but finished 0-5. They hung tough in most sets losing by a combined 6 points to East Sac, lost 28-26 to Harlan in set 1 and they won a set against Ridge View.

Kuemper was balanced at the net as Ashlyn Badding spread her 93 assists among five hitters. Frannie Glynn paced them with 24 kills while Sophie Badding added 22 as the Knights continue to be strong up the middle. Kenzie Schon added 21 kills, Kamryn Venner 19 and Kaci Peter 18. Kenya Prescott continues a strong start to her season with a team high 53 digs while Ashlyn Badding had 22 digs. Sophie Badding paced the defense at the net with 6 blocks and Frannie Glynn added 4. Glynn and Ashlyn Badding each had a team high 6 aces, Kaci Peter added 5.

East Sac was led at the net by Kate Vondrak with 26 kills, Olivia Grote who left early in the day with an ankle injury and wasn’t able to return finished with 16 kills and Meredith Brown added 15 kills. Mary Bontrager and Paige Wunschel both finished with 33 assists. Wunschel paced the back row 14 digs, Meredith Brown and Kate Vondrak each had 10 digs. Vondrak also had 10 blocks, Mary Bontrager added 9 blocks and Meredith Brown 6 blocks. Brown and Wunschel each had 3 aces.

No stats reported on Saturday by South Central Calhoun.

Carroll At Spencer Tournament 

Carroll split the day winning matches over Algona and ELC while falling to Humboldt and Cherokee. They went 4-4 in sets with tight win over Algona in set two winning 22-20. Carroll also had a close loss to Cherokee in set one, 21-18. With the 2-2 day Carroll sits at 6-6 on the season heading into a match Tuesday when they host Denison Schleswig.

Josie Ayala had a team high 27 kills, Chloe Ludwig was second on the team with 11 kills, Alyssa Brant had 10 kills, Camryn Schable finished with 9 kills.  Kaitlyn Tigges had 58 assists Saturday with seven different girls having a kill. Josie Ayala led the back row with 17 digs, Hannah Jorgensen added 16 digs and Madison Tunning had 10 digs. Cam Schable and Alyssa Brant each had 3 blocks and Brant had a team high 3 aces.

Coon Rapids Bayard At South Hardin Tournament 

Coon Rapids Bayard finished the day going 1-3 in matches with their last match of the day with Oelwein not played. The Crusaders picked up a 2-1 win over Saydel with a nice 15-9 win in set 3. The Crusaders bounced back in the match after winning comfortably in set 1, they dropped a tight 2nd set but rebounded for the win. They pushed Greene County to three sets, falling 15-10 in the 3rd set. Coon Rapids Bayard went 3-7 in sets.

Breely Clayburg and Brynn Bass led their attack with Clayburg with 12 kills and Bass with 8 kills. Gracy Johnson and Haley Halbur combined to set six different hitters with Johnson leading the way with 11 assists and Halbur finished with 8. Bass had a solid all-around day with 14 digs and a team high 9 aces. Lacie Davis paced the back row with 19 digs. Haley Halbur also had 9 digs and Gracy Johnson finished with 8 digs. Clayburg had a team high 5 blocks, Mia and Mallory Leighty each had 4 blocks and Mia ended with 5 aces.
