Duane Eugene Baker of Scranton

Duane Eugene Baker, age 83, of Scranton, IA, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family.
A public visitation will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 5 – 7 P.M. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton.
A private family funeral service will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton on Saturday, August 28, 2021 followed by a private graveside service in the Scranton Township Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Iowa National Guard.

Duane was born on June 1, 1938 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Donald and Josephine (Gibson) Baker.  He grew up on his family’s farm near Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1957.  Duane was married to Charlene Johnson on July 1, 1962 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, IA. He served in the Army National Guard for six years following high school.  He then worked on a farm and later started Baker Machine Shop in Ralston and moved the business to Main Street in Scranton.  In the early 70’s Duane began farming and purchased their current farm near Scranton.  He was an antique tractor collector and builder.  He could fix most anything and even built his own camper.  Duane also enjoyed going to auctions, collecting treasures, camping, and spending time with his family who he truly cherished. 
Duane is survived by his wife Charlene of Scranton; son Jeff Baker (Rhonda) of Scranton; son Jon Baker (Amy) of Scranton; daughter Juli Jenkins (Jeff) of West Des Moines; eight grandchildren: Justin Baker, Kyle Baker (Stephanie), Jordan Jenkins, Jake Jenkins, twins Michael and Megan Jenkins, Sam Baker, and Emily Baker; four great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Genevieve, Christian, and Theodore; two brothers: Romayne Baker of Chicago and Donnie Baker (Mary) of Billings, MT; three sisters-in-law: Virginia Parrish of Jewel, IA, Dolores Wergeland (Marvin) of Hardy, IA, and Marlene Vorland of Humboldt, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Josephine Baker; his father and mother-in-law Marvin and Bernice Johnson and a sister in infancy.
