Carroll’s Summer Meal Programs On Track To Distribute Over 150,000 Meals By Aug. 10

The summer meal programs in Carroll are on track to serve approximately 150,000 meals over the course of its nine-week run. Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Nutrition Director, Sara Anderson, says the summer meals have always been popular, but previous years’ participation levels pale in comparison to 2021.

Six breakfasts and six lunches are provided as a grab-and-go option on Wednesdays at either Fairview or Holy Spirit Elementary Schools or in person at Adams Elementary on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Anderson says they serve well-over twenty thousand meals per week between the three sites.

Since the program began in June, 7,862 gallons of milk have been distributed with more than 20,400 fruit servings handed out each week. Anderson says the meals are more than just free. Each one provides healthy and well-balanced foods to kids who may not have access to those otherwise.

Anderson says participation in the summer meals program is so high this year that teachers, staff members, students and other community members are volunteering several days every week to ensure the meals are packaged and ready to be distributed to local families.

The last day for meal pickup is Wednesday, Aug. 4, which will provide meals for each registered child through Aug. 10. The final day for in-person meals at Adams is Thursday, Aug. 5 with four additional meals sent home with kids. Only three weeks are left until the program ends, but families can still register to participate by following the links included below.
