Lake City, Lohrville And Lanesboro Without Power After Tornado Sweeps Through Calhoun County Wednesday

There were no known injuries from a tornado that swept through southern Calhoun County Wednesday afternoon. Initial reports indicate the tornado touched down west of Lake City at approximately 3:55 p.m. City Administrator, Eric Wood, says it then pushed into town south of Highway

The tornado remained in mostly rural areas as it tracked towards Webster County. As of 7 p.m. last night, the towns of Lake City, Lohrville and Lanesboro were without power, with nearly 1,400 customers affected by the outage. Crews were immediately at the scene working to restore electricity, but Wood says it could take a few days to get everyone reconnected.

MidAmerican Energy crews have been installing a temporary feed to town to hopefully have power restored by this (Thursday) morning. Wood says they are fortunate, as it appears nobody was seriously hurt as the tornado moved through town.

It was only six years ago that a tornado passed through Lake City and it was only a few blocks north of the latest tornado’s path.

City officials are asking people to avoid the neighborhoods south of Highway 175 unless they live there. Multiple tornadoes were reported Wednesday afternoon in a broad swath across the state along the U.S. Highway 20 corridor and northeastern Iowa.
