Kuemper picked up three hits in a loss to the host school and ranked Class 4A Wildcats. Kenzie Schon singled in the 5th inning, moved to 2nd on single by Kenadee Loew and then scored on a pair of passed balls. Kamryn Venner singled for Kuemper in the 2nd inning and Hailey Ostrander walked to start the game. The Knights finished with 4 baserunners in the game. Carlisle got on the board first in the second inning with a pair of runs stretching the lead in the 3rd and 4th inning before opening up their lead with a 5-run 5th inning.
Kuemper went 0-2 on the day falling to Van Meter. The Knights had four hits with a pair of extra base hits against Van Meter who improved to 29-6 on the season. Kuemper got their first baserunner in the 3rd inning when Kaci Peter had a one out single. She scored two batters later when Hailey Ostrander added their second double of the inning. Kenzie Schon added a single to lead off the 4th and Kamryn Venner also singled later in the inning but Kuemper ended the inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Brianna Lux and Kenadee Loew walked back to back in the 6th but ended the inning on 1st and 2nd base.
The losses drop Kuemper to 20-13 on the season as they head back into conference play with Denison Schleswig at Kuemper on Monday. The Monarchs are 1 game ahead of Kuemper in the Hawkeye 10 Conference standings with 2 more wins and the same amount of conference losses. The Knights head into postseason play Wednesday when they host Panorama.
