Carroll Tops Coon Rapids Bayard in Carroll Tournament Championship Saturday

Carroll blew their opening game of the tournament open early scoring 9 times in the 1st inning and ended the game in the 5th inning after scoring 5 more runs in the 4th and then shutting SW Valley out in the 5th to advance into the championship game. Cade Schable had the highlight of the 1st inning with a 2-run single as several other Tigers scored on wild pitches. Evan Loew tripled in the 4th inning, driving in a pair of runs and then scored on a wild pitch.

The Tigers were able to limit how much pitching they had to use due to the shortened game and how well their pitchers threw. Austin Fineran picked up the win against SW Valley allowing 1 run on 3 hits in 4 innings. He struck out 5 batters. Evan Loew finished off the game with 3 strikeouts in the 5th innings.

Coon Rapids Bayard advanced into the championship game with a good win over Saydel. The Crusaders hit the ball well finishing with ten hits and three extra base hits. They drove in eight of their nine runs with three players finishing with two or more hits. Coon Rapids Bayard opened up the game with three straight hits including a double from Easton Hays, then singles by Preston McAlister and Aaron McAlister. Lance Clayburg added a triple and Gabe Obert singled to drive in another run and they led 3-1 after the 1st inning. They added a pair of runs in the 2nd on three more hits and out the game out of reach with a three run 5th inning with three more hits.

Easton Hays and Aaron McAlister each had 3 hits and both doubled, McAlister scored three times and both drove in a run. Lance Clayburg tripled and finished with 3 RBI and scored twice. Kolby Culbertson added a pair of runs batted in. Quentin Culbertson got the win going 5 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits and 2 earned runs with 7 strikeouts.

Carroll kept  the pressure on scoring in every inning and forcing the Crusaders to pitch five players. They broke the game open in the 4th and ended it with six runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Coon Rapids Bayard hung tough early answering every Carroll rally and tying the game at 5 heading into the bottom of the 4th. The Tigers opened the game hitting the ball well with four straight hits but Coon Rapids Bayard settled down and held them to 2 runs. Crusaders responded with a pair of runs in the 2nd. Slade Sibenaller and Colby Christensen doubled for Carroll in the 3rd and Carroll went back up 5-3. Again the Crusaders answered in the 4th with back to back singles by Kolby Culbertson and Tanner Oswald and both ended up scoring to tie the game at 5. Carroll batted 10 guys in the 4th inning scoring 4 runs on just 2 hits along with 4 walks.

The Tigers pounded out 13 hits with eight guys having a hit. Ryan Johnston swung a good bat with 3 hits, a double and 4 RBI. Treyton Goins added 3 hits and scored twice. Tory Feldman had a pair of hits and scored twice. Ethan Loew got the win going all 5 innings allowing 2 earned runs with 6 strikeouts.

The Crusaders had 9 hits with Lance Clayburg, Gabe Obert and Tanner Oswald each finishing with a pair of hits. Aaron McAlister doubled and drove in a run.

Carroll entertains Winterset on Monday and Coon Rapids Bayard is home to Ar-We-Va.

The Tigers improved to 8-5 and Coon Rapids Bayard finished the day 12-4.
