Ar-We-Va, East Sac, and SCC Softball Teams Grab Wins Against Conference Opponents Wendesday Night; Carroll and Glidden Ralston Suffer Losses

The Carroll Tigers attempted a late game comeback, but came one run short against Perry Wednesday night. Carroll and Perry came out of the first inning tied at 1-1. Carroll took the lead back as they’d score two runners and lead 3-1. Perry, though, were able to tie the game up once again at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth with two runners scored. Eventually, Perry grabbed their first lead of the game at 5-3 by scoring another two runners in the bottom of the sixth inning. Carroll brought a runner home in the top of the seventh, but was stopped one run short of tying the game for a third time as Perry won 5-4.

Whiting at Ar-We-Va

Ar-We-Va grabbed a great win at home when they welcomed Whiting Wednesday night. The Rockets night started off slow as they’d score a solo run in the bottom of the first, taking a 1-0 lead. After three innings, the Rockets were able to grab another run while Whiting grabbed a run of their own, cutting the Rockets lead down to 2-1. Ar-We-Va had a great bottom of the third where they added three more runs to their total, leading 5-1. The biggest hit of the night came from Timberlen Koch who got a triple for the Rockets. 

The scoring success continued as Ar-We-Va added one run in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 9-1 lead. All but one Rocket in this game got at least a hit, with Koch and Delaney Schurke getting two in this game. Jadeyn Smith pitched for Ar-We-Va where in seven innings, she allowed four hits, an earned run, and got six strikeouts. The Rockets grabbed the 9-1 win over Whiting.

Ar-We-Va improves to 3-3 on the season and 3-3 in the Rolling Valley Conference as Whiting falls to 1-9 overall and 1-7 in the RVC. The Rockets’ season continues as they travel to take on Boyer Valley on Thursday, June 10th.

GTRA at East Sac

East Sac had a close contest against GTRA, but were victorious Wednesday night. The GTRA Titans came to play as they’d start off the top of the first inning with two runs to lead 2-0. The Raiders eventually tied up the game in the bottom of the third with two runs of their own. Laryn Sharp got a sacrifice bunt and picked up an RBI while Meredith Brown crushed an RBI double to score the other runner. GTRA grabbed the lead back in the next half inning in the top of the fourth to lead 3-2. 

East Sac’s big inning came in the bottom of the fifth as they’d bring home three runners to take back the lead 5-3 in a big way. Aleisha Thayer got herself a big two RBI double to score two as Brown was picked off by a 4-6 fielder’s choice, but was still credited with an RBI. Top of the sixth inning, GTRA inched closer to gaining the lead back as they’d score another runner off two hits cutting the lead to 5-4, but East Sac left two runners on base to prevent any more runners from scoring. After a rough bottom of the sixth on offense, East Sac swung the momentum on defense as Jen Aschinger grabbed a strikeout and the defense got two great plays to end the game in a 5-4 victory. 

East Sac improves to 5-2 on the season and 3-2 in Twin Lakes Conference play as GTRA falls to 6-3 overall, and 2-2 in Twin Lakes conference play. East Sac is in action once again as they entertain Storm Lake St. Mary’s on Thursday, June 10th.

South Central Calhoun at West Bend Mallard

South Central Calhoun came back  to win in a big way against West Bend Mallard Wednesday night. The Titans high scoring night started slow with two runs scored in the second inning and three in the third. Down 5-0, West Bend Mallard came back in quick fashion as they took the lead by scoring six runs in the bottom of the third inning. Sally Musselman was on the mound for South Central Calhoun when those six runs were scored, but she also recorded four strikeouts. Past the third inning, Musselman and the Titan defense didn’t allow another run to be scored. 

South Central Calhoun quickly tied up the game at 6-6 in the top of the fourth with a solo run. The fifth inning for the Titans was the decision maker as they’d score 19 runners, ending the game in a huge way. Eight different batters for South Central Calhoun would score at least two runs in this game. The Titans bring home a huge 25-6 victory. 

South Central Calhoun improves to 6-4 on the season, 3-2 in Twin Lakes Conference as West Bend Mallard falls to 0-10 on the season and 0-7 in conference play. The Titans have a long stretch before their next game, which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16th on the road against Pocahontas Area.

Glidden Ralston had a tough night as they faced off against West Harrison Wednesday night. West Harrison got on the board in the bottom of the first with two runs to take a 2-0 lead. They’d add four runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the sixth. Addy Boell was on the mound for the Wildcats where she’d pitch six innings, allow seven earned runs, and recorded four strikeouts. Summer Toms got the only hit for the Wildcats with a single. 

West Harrison defeated Glidden Ralston by a final score of 9-0. Glidden Ralston falls to 1-8 on the season, 1-6 in Rolling Valley Conference play as West Harrison improves to 4-6 on the season and 3-4 in conference play. The Wildcats will travel to Jefferson to take on Greene County on Thursday, June 10th.
