Damage To Parked Car Brings Reminder To Jefferson Residents About Leaving Space For Trash Removal

The Jefferson Police Department is reminding residents to leave space for refuse removal following an incident on Monday. An officer responded to a call in the 400 block of South Vine Street at approximately 10 a.m. to investigate an accident. Upon arrival, he learned a 2020 Peterbilt garbage truck, owned by the City of Jefferson and operated by Bill McDowell, had struck a parked vehicle. McDowell told authorities he was attempting to pull up to the curb to collect the trash using the automatic arm on the truck when he struck a 2015 Toyota 4Runner parked in the street. The garbage truck was not damaged, but the vehicle, owned by Dana Harrison of Jefferson sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages. Officers are asking that residents make sure the refuse collection team has clear access to the curb where receptacles are placed and that they not park or place other items near the garbage.
