Authorities Continue Investigation Into Reported Vehicle Shooting Saturday Near Jefferson

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into a Saturday incident in which a driver allegedly shot at another vehicle. At approximately 2:07 p.m., a deputy and Iowa State Patrol trooper made contact with one of the drivers, identified as 44-year-old Renee Guzman of Paton. Authorities say his 2013 Buick Enclave had experienced heavy front-end damage and had three bullet holes near the front of the car. The other suspect vehicle was located in Grand Junction. Its occupants included: 23-year-old Reed Hillenga of Berwick, and 22-year-old Matthew Guzman and 29-year-old Manual Ochoa, both of Perry. Matthew Guzman admitted to law enforcement he had shot at the other vehicle but claimed it was in self-defense. They accuse Renee Guzman of ramming their car while traveling on U.S. Highway 30 near Oakland Avenue east of Jefferson. Renee Guzman told law enforcement he had been fired upon first. The incident remains under investigation.
