State Class 1A Tennis Tournament Results Friday, May 28th
Luke Hicks and Carter Soppe of Kuemper at State Doubles Tournament in Waterloo
Hicks and Soppe advanced into the quarterfinals with a convincing win over Sturm and Sturm of Atlantic. They fell down 2-1 in set 1 and then rallied to win the next 4 games to lead 5-2. They attacked on their serves and used the center of the court well. Kuemper won the battle at the net in the 1st set and kept Atlantic from getting comfortable. Carter Soppe was fantastic at the net and Luke Hicks patrolled the back row well and also attacked at the net. Both guys did a fantastic job of finding openings and attacking where Atlantic wasn’t at.
They matched up with Gabriel Anderson and Caden Branum of Decorah who was seeded 4th and fell in the match 2 sets to none. Anderson and Branum attacked the net well and kept Hicks and Soppe from getting comfortable.
Kuemper squared off with Marcus McPartland and Joey Zehr of Boone in the 2nd round consolations and saw their season come to an end. They battled hard in 2nd set after dropping the 1st set 6-2 they nearly pulled it out falling 7-6.
