An agreement has been reached between the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education and Carroll Education Association (CEA) on contracts for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022. The CEA opened negotiations in March by requesting a four-percent total package increase through FY23. The district responded by offering a 1.04-percent increase for a single year. The two parties eventually settled on a 2.84-percent raise. According to Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, it took only a single meeting after the opening offers to reach an agreement. He says these quick negotiations are possible thanks to the keen focus on student achievement throughout the district.
Negotiations with the Carroll Educational Support Association (CESA), which represents bus drivers, teacher associates and other similar positions, are still ongoing. CESA opened with an across-the-board one dollar increase to wages with longevity pay provisions. School officials countered with a 30-cent wage increase. Berlau says they have reached a tentative agreement, but it is not official yet.
He expects the board to vote on formal approval for the CESA contracts at a special meeting sometime in the next several weeks. Both contracts will be in effect from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. School officials and union representatives will need to reconvene in just under a year to begin negotiations on the FY23 contracts.
