Two students from Glidden-Ralston and one from Carroll High have been selected as recipients of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce and Carroll County Cattlemen’s Association Carroll County Agriculture Scholarships. Karter Kennebeck, the son of Brian and Shandi Kennebeck of Glidden, is a senior at Glidden-Ralston and will be attending Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny following graduation. He will be studying ag business as he follows his passion for agriculture, which he says was developed from helping his grandparents farm. He hopes to run a farming operation of his own one day. Also a senior at Glidden-Ralston High School, Haley Onken is the daughter of Joel and Tami Onken of Glidden. Haley will be pursuing a major in animal science, pre-vet/veterinary medicine at Iowa State University. She plans a career in veterinary medicine. Carroll High School senior, Adam Nees, is the son of Mike and Kim Nees of Carroll, and he is planning to also attend Iowa State University, where he will study ag business. He says he is working to integrate a career in agriculture into his life with a goal of doing what he can to help improve the industry. His interest in the field was gained through working with livestock and equipment on the family farm since a young age. Each student will receive a $250 scholarship, which is made possible through donations from Carroll area businesses, the Carroll County Cattlemen and proceeds from a special 1987 livestock auction.
