Members of the community are invited to join Kuemper students and staff this week in their effort to provide meals to people in need in Honduras. The biannual “Then Feed Just One” biennial food packing event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31 from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the high gymnasium. The effort is organized by the Kuemper National Honor Society (NHS), student council and LIFE group. The last packaging event was cancelled due to COVID-19, but NHS Moderator, Robin Harrington, says the need for food has not lessened because of the pandemic.

Students and staff will be packaging meals throughout the day on Wednesday, and volunteers will take over the effort after school dismisses at 1:30 p.m. that day. Organizers have set a goal of funding and packaging 300,000 meals, and Harrington says they are very close to reaching that mark. Meals are packaged for about 16 cents each, and volunteers are asked to donated $30 each, enough to cover supplies and shipping for 187 meals. According to Harrington, they want the entire community to be involved, but they do have some extra precautions in place this year.

Because of the need for space between groups, volunteers are asked to register in advance by using the contact points included with this story on our website. Harrington says she understands not everybody will feel comfortable volunteering this year, but people can still support Then Feed Just One from home by sending a check to the Kuemper High School Office or logging on to www.kuemper.org/TFJO.
