Verlin Kennebeck of Carroll

Verlin Kennebeck, age 88, of Carroll, died Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.  The celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter.  Music will be by Jane Heithoff and Duane Handlos.  Casket Bearers will be Matt Redling, Tony Redling, Lanette Reyes, John Kennebeck, Joe Kennebeck, Amanda Redling, Haley Redling, Jessica Kennebeck, and Juan Reyes.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Visitation without greeting the family will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.  Those in attendance are required to wear a face covering and abide by social distancing practices.

Verlin Frank, the son of Frank Sr. and Katie (Wiskus) Kennebeck was born on May 27, 1932 near Lidderdale, Iowa.  He grew up near Lidderdale and attended Holy Family School.  After his formal education Verlin was inducted into the United States Army, and proudly served his country from 1953 to 1955.  Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the Carroll area.  Verlin was married to Lorraine Broich to this union two children were born: Randy and Roxanne.  The couple later separated.  He began working for Culligan Water Softening Service, and then began a 25 year career at Carroll Lumber, retiring in 1997.
On August 14, 1999, Verlin was united in marriage to Louise Hoffman in Carroll, Iowa.  The couple made their home in Carroll.   Verlin enjoyed fishing, traveling, rodeos, westerns, country and bluegrass music and woodworking, making many beautiful furnishings for family and friends.  Most of all Verlin enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Carroll, and St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Ames.
Verlin is survived by his children: Randy (Donna) Kennebeck of Des Moines, and Roxanne Redling of Ames; grandchildren: Lanette (Juan) Reyes of Des Moines and their children: Adrianna Wallace, Isabel and Miguel Reyes; John (Jessica) Kennebeck and their children June and Jack; Joe Kennebeck of Des Moines; Matthew (Amanda) Redling of Gilbert and their daughter Lexi June; and Tony (Haley) Redling of Ames and their children: Evie Louise and Beckham Lee.
Also surviving are Verlin’s brothers: Virgil Kennebeck of Freemont, NE, and Dennis Kennebeck of Storm Lake; brothers-in-law: Dale Hoffman of Carroll, and Larry (Bev) Hoffman of Springfield, IL; sisters-in-law: Maxine (Charles) Potter of Omaha, and Judy (Alan) Neaderhiser of Omaha, as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and friends.
Verlin was preceded in death by his wife Louise in 2015; parents: Katie and Frank Sr. Kennebeck, his sister, Lorraine E. Kennebeck, his brother: Frank (Oliva) Kennebeck, and sisters-in-law: Opal Kennebeck and Judy Kennebeck.
