David Fisher of Glidden

   David Myers Fisher, age 69, of Glidden, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.

     A public visitation will be held from 5 – 7 P.M. on Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home  in Glidden where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. with Chaplain Brian Danner of Kindred Hospice officiating.

     A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden with a public Celebration of Life reception and luncheon following at the Kruger Shelter House in Glidden from 12 – 3 P.M.

     Those in attendance are asked to abide by Covid-19 guidelines and facemasks are required at the funeral home.

     David was born on December 7, 1951 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Ward Dean and Betty Jean (Miner) Fisher.  He was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden on April 6, 1952.  He grew up on the family farm near Glidden and graduated from Glidden – Ralston High School in 1970.  He attended Creighton University and returned to Glidden to farm with his father and two brothers.  Dave met his wife Karen Barthman during a short stay at the Lake City Hospital where she worked as a nurse’s aide.  They were married on November 6, 1970 at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden.  The couple made their home on a family farm for ten years and then moved into Glidden.  They had three children: Stephanie Jean, Shawn David, and Sarah Lynn.

     David aka “Skipper” was a dedicated truck driver for Quandt Auto Salvage for nearly 35 years after leaving farming.  He took great pride in his work, always keeping his truck immaculately clean.  He officially retired in 2016.  Dave enjoyed the simple things in life: hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends who were always welcome to have a cold one in the garage and hear about his infamous “Hole-In-One”.  He was a proud member of the “Carroll County Lodge”.   Dave will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

     David is survived by his wife Karen of Glidden; three children; daughter Stephanie Fisher of Glidden; son Shawn Fisher (Jennifer “Leigh”) of Granger, IA; and daughter Sarah Zimmerman (Clint) of Ankeny, IA; three grandchildren: Wade Myers Zimmerman, Alia Pearl Zimmerman, and Avery Anne Fisher; seven siblings: Barbara McConnell (Raymond) of Indiana, Judy Palmer (Phil) of North Carolina, Sharon Baxter of Iowa, Charles “Chuck” Fisher of Arizona, Patricia Fisher of Ohio, Deborah Keuck of Arizona, William “Mike” Fisher of Arizona, and Marijane “Missy” Handlos (Danny) of Glidden; his in-laws: Sandra Stephan(Darrel), C.A. “Pete” Barthman, and Linda Barthman all of Iowa; thirty three nieces and nephews; and other extended family members and many good friends.

     David was preceded in death by his parents Ward and Betty Fisher; his father and mother-in-law Mike and Darlene Barthman; his brother John Fisher, and a niece Sherry Lynn.
