Robert “Bob” Poen of Lake City

Robert “Bob” Poen, 82, died Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Paul Ferderer officiating. Burial will follow at the Lake City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Lake City American Legion and V.F.W. A visitation will be held from noon until service time on Sunday March 7 th at the church. Masks and social distancing are required for the visitation and funeral.  Lampe & Powers Funeral Home in Lake City is assisting the family.
Robert William Poen was born on May 18, 1938, north of Ulmer, Iowa, to William Poen, Jr. and Ruth Evelyn (Spater) Poen. He was baptized in Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer. He received his education at Country School Sac No.3, one mile south of Ulmer. He graduated from Lake View High School in 1956, then in August of that year he joined the United States Army and was a gunner on a 105 Howitzer.  Bob met Betty Bauer at Starline Ballroom in Carroll, Iowa and they married on November 7, 1959 in Lake View, Iowa. Two children were born to this union; Ranee and Kevin.
Bob started farming in 1959. The family moved northwest of Lake City in 1964 and then into town in 1996. He was a member of the Lake City American Legion, President, Elder, and Trustee of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, President of Pork Producer, FHA Board and Calhoun County Drainage District.
Bob is survived by his children Ranee (Dan) Reynolds of Rockwell City and Kevin (Lynn) Poen of Lake City; grandchildren Clayton (Tonya) Reynolds and their children Cole and Ava of Auburn, Adam (Sarah) Reynolds and their children Ty, Tillie and Tripp of Rockwell City, Heidi (Nathan) Reynolds-Gruis and their children Stella and Owen of Nevada, Tiffany Poen and Kyle Poen of Lake City; and sisters Waunita Tegels and Wanda (Bob) Freese of Lake View. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ruth Poen; wife Betty; and brother-in-law Bob Tegels.
