Storm Lake Man Arrested On Several Charges, Including Controlled Substance And Felon In Possession Of Firearms Charges

A Storm Lake man who was wanted on several outstanding warrants was arrested Friday. The Storm Lake Police Department located 24-year-old Taxavier Lamar Ford at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Lake Avenue. During that arrest, the K-9 alerted to Ford’s parked vehicle. Officers obtained a search warrant and impounded the vehicle where they located a loaded 40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine and drug paraphernalia. The Buena Vista County warrants stemmed from a traffic stop conducted by the Storm Lake Police Department on Sept. 22, 2020. Officers noticed the odor of marijuana emanating from the car at that time and obtained a search warrant. They located approximately 50 grams of marijuana, a loaded 9mm handgun and a rifle. Ford is alleged to have been previously convicted of a felony-level crime in Indiana, barring him from possessing firearms. Ford has been charged with a controlled substance violation, failure to affix drug tax stamps and possession of a firearm as a felon, all class D felonies, and carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor. He has since been released after paying a $5,000 bond. The Feb. 26 incident remains under investigation.
