A Jefferson resident has fallen victim to a social media scam that is becoming all too familiar. The Jefferson Police Department was notified of the incident on Tuesday at approximately 10:10 a.m. The resident told authorities they had been conversing with an individual on social media for some time and then made the choice to share personal photos. The other party is now threatening to make the photos public if they are not paid a large sum of money. The department advises residents to be wary of entering into chats and sharing of this nature with others online, particularly with those you do not know on a more personal level.
