Lake City To Serve As Pass-Thru Town During RAGBRAI; Volunteers Needed To Assist With Planning

Lake City has been chosen as a pass-through town on the 2021 RAGBRAI route, and city officials are putting out a call for volunteers willing to help prepare the community for the large influx of travelers. Lake City was not originally on the route at all, but after Storm Lake pulled out as an overnight stop and replaced by Sac City, the proposed path was adjusted to account for the added distance on the ride’s first day. Riders will set out from Sac City on Monday, July 26, and travel through Yetter before making their way to Lake City. Administrator, Eric Wood, says they have fewer responsibilities than a host community, but there is still a lot of planning that needs to be done.

Lake City is replacing Rockwell City as a pass-through town after they removed their name from consideration due to a lack of volunteers. With about five months left until RAGBRAI gets underway, Wood says they are hoping to have committees formed as soon as possible. Ideally, they will have volunteer leaders signed up by Friday so they can participate in a planning webinar scheduled for next week.

Wood can be reached by calling 712-464-3111. This year’s RAGBRAI is scheduled for Sunday, July 25 through Saturday, July 31. Riders will pass through Schaller and Early on the opening day with Sac City serving as the overnight stop. Lytton, Yetter and Lake City will see thousands of bicyclists and support crews make their way through their city streets on the second day of the ride. The nearly 430-mile route begins in Le Mars and ends in Clinton.
