Carroll Man Accused Of Lottery Fraud Pleads Guilty In Carroll County District Court

A Carroll man accused of stealing lottery tickets from a Carroll convenience store filed a guilty plea to one of the felony charges levied against him in Carroll County District Court. According to court records, 30-year-old Joshua Michael Hoffmann was arrested on Nov. 2, 2020 for fraudulently playing InstaPlay tickets between Oct. 1 and Oct. 11 while employed at Sparky’s One Stop in Carroll. Authorities say this resulted in a more than $2,200 loss for the business. He was charged with Iowa lottery theft and second-degree theft, class D felonies, and pled guilty Thursday to lottery theft after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. His sentencing hearing has been scheduled for March 11. The Iowa Department of Correctional Services will provide a pre-sentencing report for consideration prior to the hearing.
