Glidden City Council Schedules Property Tax Levy Public Hearing For Feb. 8 Meeting

The Glidden City Council has scheduled the public hearing on their Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 maximum property tax levy for their Feb. 8 meeting. The rate presented during this hearing includes most, but not all, of the most commonly used levies, and City Administrator, Brooke Peterson, says residents should not expect any substantial changes to the $11.636 rate the city is utilizing in the current fiscal year.

The public hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8 in the meeting room at Glidden City Hall. Based on the preliminary budgets that Peterson has prepared up to this point, she says Glidden is in a healthy financial position.

Budgeting is a months-long process, and council members stayed after their meeting Monday night for another in a series of work sessions. This one was focused on upcoming utility rate changes to help fund the city’s new wastewater facility. The council is certain those rates will increase, but it is still not clear when that will occur or for how much.

She adds the only major item pieces left to finalize in FY22’s budget is when the council wants to complete several capital improvement projects. Peterson expects the finished budget to be ready for publication by Feb. 25 with the public hearing for that on March 8.
