Settlement Reached On 2016-2017 Hotel Booking System Data Breach

A hotel booking system data breach in 2016-2017 has been investigated by 27 Attorneys General and a $2.4 million settlement reached with Sabre Corporation. Iowa will receive just shy of $50,000 from that total settlement amount. According to Iowa Attorney General, Tom Miller, the breach resulted in the exposure of an estimated 1.3 million credit cards. Sabre Hospitality Solutions operates a central reservation system to facilitate business travel coordinators, travel agencies and online booking companies with booking hotel reservations. Customers were notified in June of 2017 that the breach had occurred sometime between August of 2016 and March of 2017. Some notices, however, were issued as late as 2018. “As we have seen in other data breaches, it’s crucial that companies provide clear and timely notifications to consumers so they can protect themselves from identity theft,” Miller says. More details on how to protect yourself from identity theft can be found at the Attorney General’s website, a link to which is included below.
