Atlantic At Kuemper

Atlantic 65

Kuemper 58

Atlantic scored a bucket right at the end of the 1st quarter to edge ahead of the Knights 16-14 in what was an entertaining quarter. There were 3 lead changes and 3 ties in the first eight minutes. The game changed early in the 2nd when Atlantic hit a 3 on 5 of 7 possessions and scored a 2 on the other two possessions while Kuemper struggled to get a look and didn’t score. The Trojan lead went from 18-16 to 36-16 in a few minutes and Kuemper was in a hole they would nearly get dug out of but fell just short being down 4 points with around a minute to play.

Michael Pottebaum, Dawson Gifford and Noah Bauer helped spark a rally as Kuemper cut it to 12 by half. The lead was back to 15 early in the 3rd but Kuemper again charged back and were down 9 after 3. Mitchell Badding was big early in the game keeping Kuemper close in the 1st quarter driving to the basket and scoring. As the Trojans focused on him in the 2nd half the Knights were able to get Pottebaum, Gifford and Bauer going and John Mayhall found his range knocking down a couple buckets and 4 free throws during the late run. The Kuemper defense played with more energy in the 2nd half and held Atlantic to 2 made 3’s in the 2nd half after giving up 7 in the 1st half.

Michael Pottebaum and Mitchell Badding each finished with 13 points while Mayhall added 12. Isaac Evans was solid inside adding 8 points and 8 rebounds while blocking 4 shots.

The loss drops Kuemper to 2-6 overall as they prepare to head to Van Meter on Monday.

The Carroll Tigers were able to keep their undefeated streak alive and thriving with a convincing win against the Carlisle Wildcats Friday night. The Tigers high scoring night started in the paint in the first quarter as Kaleb Booth and Treyton Goins would score six points each with fast break layups. The Tigers would end the first quarter scoring 20 points and leaving the Wildcats with a mere eight points. The domination continued into the second quarter where Booth would drain the first and only three pointer of the first half. The Tigers in this first half had plenty of steals making the Wildcats struggle to score much in the first half. The Tigers would leave a trail of dust behind them in the first half as they led 35-17.

Offense wasn’t the only part of this game the Tigers dominated, the defense showed up in waves as well. The Tigers were able to hold the Wildcats below double digits in every quarter and to a game low four points in the third quarter. This was thanks to consistent defensive rebounding and their in your face man-to-man defense. The Tigers would end the third quarter with the lead they had from the start at 49-21. The final quarter of play would see the starters benched for some of the second string players who were able to show off their talent a bit. Ethan Lengeling was able to pull up a three-pointer in the fourth quarter along with teammate Colby Christensen. The Tigers would cruise past the Wildcats by a score of 69-27.

Not too far behind him, Kaleb Booth would find himself with 13 points, two assists, and two rebounds. The Tigers improve to 9-0 on the season as the Wildcats fall to 1-7.
