Two Accidents, Ten Minutes Apart, Same Deer

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to two accidents in the same spot about 10 minutes apart that involved the same deer. Sheriff, Jack Williams, responded to the first call at approximately 5:33 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 30 near R Avenue, between Jefferson and Grand Junction. Sixty-two-year-old Rhonda Harding of Jefferson had struck and killed a deer with a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country van, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage to the vehicle. At approximately 5:43 p.m., the Sheriff was called on to investigate the second incident. Forty-one-year-old Jeanette Stoffa of Grand Junction had moved over to the shoulder of the roadway to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle that was partially in her lane, where she struck the deceased deer. There was an estimated $3,000 in damage to the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze Stoffa was driving.
