Rev. Dale Reiff, age 79, of Carroll, died Monday, January 4, 2021 at his home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at St. John Paul II Parish, Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be the Most Rev. R. Walker Nickless, Bishop of the Diocese of Sioux City. Homilist will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Con-Celebrants will be the Priests of the Diocese of Sioux City. Instrumental Music will be by Jane Heithoff. Lector will be Kirk Yung. Casket Bearers will be Kirk Yung, Brian Yung, David Yung, Christopher Reiff, Corey Reiff, Shaun Reiff, Jon Reiff, Kevin Hyland, Michael Hyland, Matthew Nelson, and Stephen Nelson. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda. Visitation without the family present will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Wednesday morning at Holy Spirit Church. Those in attendance are required to wear face coverings and abide by all Covid-19 restrictions. A recording of Fr. Reverend Dale Reiff, the son of Lawrence and Laverna (Sanders) Reiff was born on June 21, 1941 in Carroll, Iowa. He attended SS. Peter and Paul School and Kuemper Catholic High School. Fr. Dale received his Seminary education at Pontificial College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio, Immaculate Conception Seminary, Conception, Missouri, and Mount St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque. Fr. Dale Reiff was ordained on September 23, 1967 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. Fr. Dale’s Assignments included: Assistant Pastor- St. Rose of Lima Parish, Denison, 1967-1968; Assistant Pastor- St. Cecelia Parish, Algona, 1968-1971; Assistant Pastor- St. Joseph Parish, Le Mars, 1971-1974; Assistant Pastor- St. Lawrence Parish, Carroll, 1974-1978; Pastor – St. Benedict Parish, Kossuth County, 1978-1979; Pastor- St. Catherine Parish, Oyens, 1979-1982; Pastor- St. John Parish, Gilmore City (attending St. Patrick’s on the Lizard 1982-1984 and Rolfe 1984-1986), 1982-1986; Pastor – St. Joseph Parish, Duncombe (Attending Vincent) 1986-1988, 1989-1994; Pastor – St. Joseph Parish- Dedham, 1988-1989; Pastor- St. Matthew Parish, Clare (Attending Barnum), 1994-2000; Pastor – St. Augustine Parish- Halbur, (Attending Roselle and Templeton) 2000-2012.
Fr. Dale is survived by his siblings: Eileen Yung of Ft. Dodge, Jean (George) Conley of Waukee, Larry (Mary) Reiff of Omaha, David (Lynn) Reiff of Jefferson, SD, and Marilyn (Randy) Nelson of Littleton, CO; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Laverna Reiff; his brother Donald Reiff; brothers-in-law: Al Yung, and Terry Hyland; and a niece Cari Reiff.
