Jerry Frehse of Carroll

Jerry Lee Frehse, age 73, of Lidderdale, IA, and formerly of Carroll, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, NE.

     Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Ryan Roehrig officiating.  Organist for the service will be Abe Batten and soloist be Briee Roehrig.  Casket bearers will be Brandon Frehse, Chris Frehse, Brance Frehse, Ron Cleveland, Jeff Frank, and Mitch Frank.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion and the Iowa National Guard.

     Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday evening.  The casket will be moved to St. Paul Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M.

     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Camp Okoboji or St. Paul Lutheran Church and may be left with the funeral home or at the church.

     Those in attendance at Jerry’s visitation and funeral are asked to abide by Covid-19 guidelines and facemasks are required at the funeral home and at the church.

     Jerry was born on May 31, 1947 in Sac City, IA, and was the son of Alvin and LaVola (Buse) Frehse.  He grew up on his family’s farm south of Nemaha, IA, and graduated from Early – Crestland High School in 1965.  Jerry attended Iowa State University for one year and enlisted in the United States Army.  He served five years stationed in Germany and Vietnam.  During his military service, Jerry was married to Sheryl Mohr on July 12, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn, IA.  Upon his honorable discharge, Jerry returned to Iowa and he and Sheryl lived in Sac City and Lake View before moving to Carroll in 1973.  Jerry then drove truck for various companies and worked for Community Oil for several years.  Jerry worked for Drees Heating and Cooling for many years and most recently for his daughter and son-in-law’s company Peterson Express. Jerry was a very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll serving on many boards including the board of elders, trustees, and Sunday school teacher and superintendent.  Jerry became a Deacon in the church through the Lay Leadership Institute and he served on the board of directors for Camp Okoboji for many years.  Jerry enjoyed fishing, reading, fixing most anything, helping on the family farms, and family trips to Camp Okoboji.

     Jerry is survived by his wife Sheryl of Lidderdale, IA; his children and their families: daughter Barb Wills (J. Stephen) of Columbus, IN, daughter Stacy Travis (Pastor James) of Sioux City, IA, Sarah Peterson (Aaron) of Westside, IA, Dawn Frehse of Bossier City, LA, and Curtis Frehse (Jessica) of Council Bluffs, IA; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; two brothers: Steve Frehse (Gloria) of Spencer, IA, and Gene Frehse (Amy) of Ft. Dodge, IA; a sister-in-law Deb Mohr of Lake View, IA; a brother-in-law Darwin Mohr (Linda) of Omaha, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

     Jerry was preceded in death by parents Alvin and LaVola Frehse; his father and mother-in-law Ralph and Marine Mohr; a brother Leo Frehse (Cindy); and a son Corey in infancy.
