Although There Were A Lot Of Accidents Reported Across Iowa On Tuesday, It Was Pretty Quiet In This Region

Even though troopers with the Iowa State Patrol responded to 91 accidents on Tuesday, locally it was much quieter. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received one report of a vehicle sliding into the ditch and Carroll officers assisted two motorists, had one driving complaint and no accidents. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident on State Highway 44 near the Guthrie Center City Park at approximately 8:55 p.m. Twenty-year-old Tyler Joseph Leivas of Guthrie Center was southbound when he lost control of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero he was driving and collided with a light pole. He complained of possible minor injuries, but was not transported for treatment. There was an estimated $2,000 in damage to the car. Leivas was cited for first-offense operating while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernal, possession of alcohol by a person 18, 19 or 20 and failure to provide proof of financial liability. The Jefferson Police Department responded to one accident at approximately 12:51 p.m. at the intersection of Olive and Central Streets. Dennis Borkowski of Jefferson was westbound on Central in a 2002 Buick Park Avenue and approaching the intersection while a city plow, driven by Michael Wallace of Jefferson, was northbound on Olive. When the drivers saw each other, they braked but were unable to stop due to the slick roadway. Borkowski’s car suffered an estimated $1,500 in damages and the plow about $500. There were no injuries reported. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to only one accident Tuesday, but it was before the snow event. They were called to the scene on Highway 30 east of Jefferson, at approximately 12:14 a.m. Twenty-one-year-old Madison Eischeid of Manning had hit a deer, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage to the 2005 Lexus 330 she was driving.
