Saturday’s Coon Rapids Christmas In A Small Town Promises Fun For Whole Family

The popular Christmas in a Small Town returns to Coon Rapids tomorrow (Saturday) with holiday activities planned throughout the day for the whole family. The event begins at 10 a.m. in Veterans’ Memorial Park with photo opportunities with Santa’s sleigh and a live reindeer until noon. Christmas inflatables will also be stationed at Tony’s Corner from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for families to take some holiday selfies. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., horse-drawn carriage rides are available at the corner of Main Street and Fifth Avenue for $5 per person or $20 per family. The Mighty Clover 4-H Club is selling raffle tickets with the chance to win a minute-long grocery dash at Frolich’s SuperValu with second place getting the some opportunity with the items to be donated to the Coon Rapids and Bayard food pantries. A lighted parade with Santa and Mrs. Claus begins at 5:30 p.m. The procession begins near the Coon Rapids Municipal Building and will weave through almost every street in town. Awards will be presented to entries for Best Theme, Most Creative and Best Lights. Families can close out the day with a free drive-in movie in the parking lot between 5th and 6th Avenues with the showing of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas beginning at 7:30 p.m. Retailers are extending their hours Saturday through 5 p.m. to provide an opportunity for some local holiday shopping. Due to the ongoing pandemic, Main Street Coon Rapids is unable to host a community meal or holiday concerts this year. Attendees are asked to practice physical distancing and to wear a face covering if that is not possible.
